About Playgroup Australia
Playgroup Australia is a not for profit national peak body in the community services sector, with state and territory members who for over 40 years have provided access to playgroups for children and their parents. Playgroup is one of the largest civil society movements in Australia, second only to the surf lifesaving movement. Our vision is to nurture young children, support and connect families, and build stronger communities through high quality playgroups Australia wide.
About the role
- A unique opportunity to share your expertise with an organisation dedicated to connecting families and communities to raise children through play.
- Applications particularly welcome from highly experienced professionals with an early childhood/families/social policy or finance / change management background
- Expenses Paid including ongoing professional development
About the Opportunity
Playgroup Australia is seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to their established governing Board. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join a passionate team on a voluntary basis, and help develop and shape an exciting future for playgroups.
Essential competencies include the ability to think and influence strategically, financial literacy, an understanding of best practice corporate governance and a capacity to work collaboratively with other Board members and the General Manager. It is expected that applicants will have had significant experience at a senior executive level.
Most importantly, the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the strategic vision and values of Playgroup Australia, as well as knowledge of governance and the community services sector nationally. An AICD qualification would be highly regarded.
Appointments will be made based upon the need to ensure that there is an appropriate mix of skills, experience and diversity on the Board. While the Board currently boasts a diverse range of experience, we are specifically seeking skills, abilities and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Early childhood, families and social policy, particularly experience in evaluation and impact measurement and/or advocacy
- Financial management
- Change management / transformational change
Those appointed would need to be able to commit the necessary time to satisfactorily meet their responsibilities (estimated time commitment is 16-20 days per annum, including Board meeting and AGM attendance either via Zoom or in person, and participation in Board Committee meetings and work). Travel and professional development expenses will be paid by Playgroup Australia.
We encourage applications from First Nations peoples, people living with a disability, LGBTIQ+ people, people who have come to Australia as migrants or refugees and veterans.
