The Investment Committee assists the Board in its responsibility to exercise due care, diligence, and skill in relation to the Company by focusing on financial investment and banking related matters.

About you opportunity
We are seeking expressions of interest for a Committee Member to enhance the Cancer Council’s mission to prevent cancer, empower people and save lives.
The Investment Committee is committed to ensuring that the Investment Committee Charter is implemented openly and with integrity, pursuing the true spirit of good governance, commensurate with the objects of the Company.
The duties and responsibilities of the Committee include but are not limited to:
- Recommend an investment policy and monitor the administration of the Company’s investments to ensure consistency with the policy.
- Review the investment strategy and asset allocation at least annually to ensure that the strategy is consistent with the investment policy, portfolio management is appropriate, and the risk limits and risk appetite have been appropriately applied.
- Approve performance benchmarks and our performance targets (where applicable).
- Recommend the appointment of an investment consultant.
- Review the performance of the portfolio and external managers against the investment policy objectives and against benchmarks.
- Regularly review the periodic cash flow forecasts and cash position of the Company to determine any implications for the Company’s investment strategy and to ensure that the Company’s liquidity needs are met.
- Recommend ethical exclusions to meet the vision, mission and ethical requirements of the Company and monitor the investment policy to ensure these requirements are met.
- Recommend the appointment of the Company’s banker and monitor the performance of the banker and the banking practices adopted by the Company.
The Committee meets a minimum four times per year, for 2 hours. All meetings are hybrid allowing attendees to join virtually or in person at our East Melbourne Office.

About you
We are seeking an applicant who can bring experience in institutional funds management and/or private wealth advice management, advanced commercial decision-making and business acumen, knowledge of corporate governance, relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, investment, banking, risk management and general business skills, and a commitment to the successful future of Cancer Council. Highly developed communication skills and the ability to build strong key stakeholder relationships are essential.
Prior experience on a board committee is not essential, however, experience working with not-for-profit organisations is preferred. Knowledge of the health care sector and a commitment to cancer issues would be an advantage.
