When people talk about the Flying Doctor, thoughts generally turn to red-bellied planes undertaking rescue missions in the Outback. However, the current Victorian story is one that reflects today's challenges for people living in remote and rural communities across the state. While we do still transport people by air and by road, this work is complemented by a range of primary health services that address the most common issues people living in country Victoria face when accessing health care.

About the role
The Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor oversees, embeds and monitors compliance with the Health Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) programs of work that are incorporated in the People Plan 2025.
The role is responsible for the efficient and effective development and implementation of HSW systems, programs and risk management activities.
Tasks and responsibilities include:
- Supporting employees to manage safety risks and hazard identification
- Developing, implementing and continually improving HSW plans, systems and processes
- Creating, updating and implementing safety policies and procedures
- Conducting risk assessment and leading safety inspection, audits and incident investigations
- Acting as Return-to-Work Coordinator
- Managing relationships with external HSW partners including regulatory agencies, RFDS’s Employee Assistance Program, and Workcover insurance agent
Qualifications, knowledge and skills required
- Certification in Workplace Health and Safety
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a Health and Safety position (health industry experience preferred)
- Experience with ISO45001:2018 certification desirable
- Knowledge of all OHS Ats & regulations (VIC) and Work Health and Safety ACT & regulations (NSW)
- Proficient computer literacy including MSOffice, RiskMan and Solv
- Full Victorian Drivers Licence
This role requires the incumbent to be willing and available to travel to RFDS locations across Victoria and NSW.
Mandatory requirements:
In line with RFDS Victoria’s mandatory policies, all employees are required to undergo a National Police Clearance, hold a Working with Children Check and have 3 * Covid vaccinations and annual influenza vaccination.
