Inclusion Australia is the national representative organisation for people with an intellectual disability and their families. We have been working strategically, with passion and dedication to advocate for greater inclusion of people with an intellectual disability in all levels of Australian society, for 70 years.

The Treasurer is the Chair of the Finance Audit and Risk Management Committee (FARM) and is responsible for overseeing the management of Inclusion Australia’s finances and risk management.

All board members are committed to and bound by the responsibilities outlined within Inclusion Australia’s constitution and the relevant laws.

Important information about this role

The Board Treasurer is a voluntary role that is fully remote; open to you wherever you live in Australia. Online meetings are held via Microsoft Teams.

The commitment is one 2 hour Board meeting, and one 1.5 hour committee meeting every two months, plus appropriate preparation time, and appropriate time to ensure the responsibilities of the role are fulfilled.

What you will do

Lead Finance Audit and Risk Management Committee (FARM)

  • Agenda, minutes, annual self-assessment, and chairing of FARM committee meetings

Financial management

  • Statutory financial reporting and record keeping requirements
  • Review the annual budget, budget updates, and forecasting
  • Provide support and advice on financial management
  • Collaboratively review and provide advice on Inclusion Australia’s accounting policies and approaches
  • Review and provide advice on processes used by Inclusion Australia’s managers to monitor and ensure compliance

Risk management

  • Oversee the development and implementation of a risk management framework
  • Review Inclusion Australia’s risk register
  • Support the identification and management of risks

Provide information to the board

  • Regular financial and risk updates to the Board

Inclusive practices

  • Receive, share, and supply information in an accessible format
  • Provide support, and ensure accessibility for fellow Board members.

 Who we’re looking for

  • You have experience in governance or senior leadership roles in the not-for-profit sector
  • You have an interest to understand the purpose and work of Inclusion Australia
  • You have a willingness to learn and understand issues impacting people with an intellectual disability
  • You hold an Accounting degree, or similar relevant financial qualification
  • You hold a Director Identification Number (Director ID)
  • You must have a police record check before starting the role, and hold current valid employment Working with Children Check at all times
  • You may also have personal or close experience in working with people with an intellectual disability.
