About the organisation

Organisation Name : Court Services Victoria

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria’s courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

The Drug Court (DC) is a statutory division of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria and part of MCV Specialist Courts and Programs. The division provides an alternative sentencing option to offenders with drug and/or alcohol dependency who have committed offence/s.

About the role

The Drug Court Clinical Advisor (DCCA) will be responsible for providing evidence-based guidance and advice, treatment planning and referral service information for the Drug Court (DC) and its participants, in line with the principles and practices of the model, at all Drug Court locations.

The DCCA plays a crucial role in undertaking comprehensive drug and alcohol assessments with potential DC participants who have been referred to DC. These assessments are used to inform the judiciary around suitability for Drug and Alcohol Treatment Orders (DATO) and assist in shaping potential DATO conditions.

The DCCA is also responsible for designing a treatment plan, liaising with alcohol and other drug services and supporting the participant to achieve treatment goals. This role also provides secondary consultation to other members of the DC team and the judiciary.
