About the role
Clinical Psychologist – Psychodynamic Therapist
Merri Health – Counsellor, Clinical Psychologist or Allied Health Professional with certification in Psychodynamic psychotherapy such as Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.
- Up to 0.6 EFT; Fixed Term, Part Time position until June 2025 (Parental Leave Cover Position)

- Join an innovative, multidisciplinary chronic pain team dedicated to delivering evidence – based interventions to get to the root cause of the pain experience, such as Pain Reprocessing Therapy
Your new role:
The Chronic Pain Service is an exciting project funded via the NWM-PHN. It is an innovative multidisciplinary service provided within a Community Health setting.
You will be working as part of this leading-edge multidisciplinary team delivering Pain Reprocessing Therapy to provide direct, comprehensive, high quality and evidence based psychological services to clients who are referred to the Chronic Pain Service. Your role will include employing a trauma-focused lens to the care that you provide and training and/or experience in the methodology of psychodynamic interventions, such as Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP).
The Service collaborates with both primary and tertiary services to deliver services along a continuum of care to clients experiencing chronic pain. You will be working with a motivated and experienced multi-disciplinary team, in a community health setting to deliver high quality health care to our community.
You will be responsible for:
– Undertaking comprehensive psychological/psychodynamic assessments and implementing effective, evidence-based psychological/psychodynamic interventions to clients in the Chronic Pain Service.
– Providing advanced clinical knowledge and skills to deliver a high quality, evidence based psychological service for clients who are experiencing chronic pain on both an individual and group basis.
– Development and provision of group sessions in the Chronic Pain group program and development of other focused group programs if appropriate.
– Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to complete goal directed and comprehensive care planning and case conferencing to ensure effective management of client’s needs.
– Actively participating in upskilling and sharing your knowledge and expertise regarding chronic pain management with the staff at Merri Health and other stakeholders.
– Participating in further refinement and evaluation of the service.
– Maintaining activity data and accurate, up to date clinical records to a high standard.

– Counsellor, Clinical Psychologist or Allied Health Professional with certification in Psychodynamic psychotherapy such as Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy
– Current registration for the appropriate Health Professional designation such as with ARCAP or AHPRA
– Certification in either Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) or Internal Family Systems (IFS) or other psychodynamic therapy
– Clinical skills in evidence based psychological or psychodynamic assessment and intervention including the provision of evidence based approaches
– Experience in the provision of evidence based psychological or psychodynamic services related to chronic pain management
– Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team, with an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
