Your Impact
As Finance Manager you will oversee the sound financial operations of Foundation House. The Finance Manager leads the Finance Team to rigorously ensure the accountable, compliant and systematic management of Foundation House finances. The role encompasses planning and implementing budgets, forecasts, the preparation of financial reports, cash management, and purchasing.
The Finance Team comprises a total of seven staff and covers the full range of financial and management accounting, reporting, operations and payroll activity. The team comprises the Senior Management Accountant, Management Accountant and Payroll Coordinator who report directly to the Finance Manager. The Assistant Accountant and Finance Officer (payables and receivables) report to the Senior Management Accountant and the Payroll Officer reports to the Payroll Coordinator.
Under the direction of the General Manager Corporate Services, the Finance Manager will:
- Manage staff within the team.
- Make all necessary decisions regarding accounting for income and expenditure.
- Manage cash-flow including transferring funds between investment and cash management accounts.
- Make all necessary decisions to achieve outcomes within the scope of key responsibilities listed below.
The Role
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Managing the finance team; overseeing team operations, supporting staff development, fostering collaboration and addressing real time issues.
- Managing and administering financial systems (including payroll), to ensure efficient and accurate operation while meeting all regulatory, contractual, and legislative obligations.
- Preparing annual budgets with the Agency Management Team (AMT) and regular monitoring/analysis of financial performance against budget.
- Preparing and providing statutory and other reports and expert advice to the executive and Board to enable effective and productive decision making
- Developing the business literacy and financial capability of the organisation
- Preparing the annual statutory accounts in line with the most recent changes and compliance requirements under the Australian Accounting Standards
- Analysing month end financial performance against budget, ensuring payroll, accounts receivable and creditors are effectively managed.
The role is an ongoing, full-time position based in our Brunswick head office.
What you’ll need to successfully apply
To be successful, you will need to positively respond to the below selection criteria:
- Tertiary qualification in accounting with a CA or CPA membership.
- Previous experience in managing all aspects of financial management for a not-for-profit organisation, including overseeing payroll, budgets and reporting.
- Experience with financial management and the development and management of budgets, plus competency in accounting software applications, preferably MYOB Advanced and Velixo.
- Analytical skills with the ability to problem solve and use initiative; competency in using data analysis tools and financial report writing skills appropriate for reports to the Board and senior management.
- High level knowledge and understanding of legislation – tax, superannuation, FBT, long service leave, portable long service leave.
- High familiarity with accounting and auditing principles, practices and procedures including the Accounting Standards (with special emphasis on AASB15, AASB 16 and AASB 1058).
- Excellent attention to detail, sound judgement, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level organisational, communication and time management skills, plus a commitment and values alignment to the purpose of Foundation House.
- Strong computer skills including Excel, Word and Outlook.
