The AMHC is an initiative of FECCA established to fill a gap in national advocacy about broad multicultural health and wellbeing issues, including systemic racism and demonstrated health inequities. It is composed of consumers; health and wellbeing/social care services and practitioners; researchers and research organisations.

About the Role:
As Executive Director of the Australian Multicultural Health Collaborative (AMHC), you will oversee strategic initiatives to advocate for improvements in the health and wellbeing of Australia’s culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse individuals and communities by influencing policy, coordinating stakeholders, and driving meaningful societal change.
This role provides a unique opportunity to shape national conversations, develop innovative advocacy strategies, and implement policies that impact Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities across Australia. You will collaborate with government departments, partner organisations, and a broad network of stakeholders. You will work with a team of professional and passionate individuals and the AMHC governance committee.
The successful candidate will be strategic, proactive, collaborative, and hands-on with strong communication skills. You are a self-driven problem solver who thrives on the challenge of delivering results and actively seeks opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership:
- Drive the establishment, growth, and evolution of initiatives to address systemic racism and health inequities in the health and wellbeing system for CALD ethnic communities.
- Develop and implement advocacy campaigns and strategies to influence national policies.
- Build trust, membership, and leadership ensuring a strong voice for the Collaborative and multicultural communities.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with CALD ethnic communities, consumers and carers, health and social care services, partner organisations, researchers, and government stakeholders.
- Lead working groups, advisory committees, and consultations on health equity issues.
- Facilitate productive engagement with expert committees and coordinate activities across diverse interest groups.
Policy Development and Advocacy:
- Provide high-level policy advice and produce submissions, reports, and advocacy materials.
- Monitor and evaluate policy trends to guide alliance initiatives and government relations.
- Ensure the integration of research-backed prevention strategies into policy and program design.
Operational:
- Manage teams and operational functions for AMHC and FECCA, including task prioritisation and work plan execution.
- Oversee communication efforts (e.g., websites, newsletters, and social media).
- Ensure compliance with governance and reporting requirements.
Selection Criteria:
Essential Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in social, health, public policy or related fields.
- Minimum five years’ experience in leadership roles within advocacy, policy, or community engagement sectors.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting CALD communities and health equality.
- Proven skills in stakeholder management, public speaking, and team leadership.
- Experience producing high-quality advocacy and policy materials.
- Strong research, analytical, and project management skills.
Desired Criteria:
- Experience leading advocacy bodies in multicultural and health and wellbeing-focused contexts.
- Knowledge of government processes and effective advocacy techniques.
- Passion for equity, diversity, and inclusion, with lived experience highly regarded.
