Senior Financial Accountant
The Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL) is seeking a dedicated Senior Financial Accountant to join our high-performing Finance team.
Location: Fitzroy
Job Type: Permanent Full-Time working 38 hours per week
Salary: $113,691.32 – $118,710.13, based on skills and experience plus 12% superannuation.

About the role:
The Senior Financial Accountant is a key role within the Finance Department providing direct support to managers in a wide variety of programs and to the senior management of the organisation.

Financial Management & Reporting: Lead financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting; ensure accuracy, compliance, and strategic insights across BSL and related entities.

Taxation & Compliance: Oversee tax matters including BAS, FBT, and ACNC reporting; ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory frameworks, and support audits.

Leadership & Team Development: Supervise and mentor the financial accounting team, support performance management, and drive continuous improvement in capability and outcomes.

Strategic & Operational Support: Provide financial analysis for strategic initiatives, process improvements, and business decisions; contribute to financial sustainability and change management.

Systems & Risk Management: Maintain financial systems, strengthen internal controls, assess and mitigate financial risks, and oversee bank accounts, investments, and payroll-related processes.

What we are looking for:
We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented finance professional who is passionate about BSL’s mission and committed to delivering excellence in financial leadership and strategic support.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences:

Qualifications & Technical Expertise: Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or related discipline; CA/CPA qualified with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Power BI; experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft D365.

Financial Management Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting, financial analysis, and reporting, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and a strong understanding of accounting standards and tax regulations.

Change Leadership & Process Improvement: Proven success in leading finance transformation and automation projects, with the ability to redesign processes and drive cross-functional collaboration through significant change initiatives.

Organisational Capability & Strategic Support: Demonstrated ability to build capacity across teams, identify and resolve problems, and provide strategic financial insights that support organisational goals.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Excellent relationship-building, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with a commitment to equity, inclusion, cultural safety, and BSL’s mission and values.
