About the role

The Cobargo Community Tree Project (CCTP) was born from community consultation after the 2019/20 Black Summer Bushfires, including events facilitated by ABV in Cobargo. The idea came from local blacksmiths Philippe Ravenel (Galba Forge) and Iain Hamilton (Mother Mountain Forge). Community members were invited to forging days to create unique, name-stamped stainless steel gum leaves. These 1,800+ leaves, now in storage, will be assembled into a Community Tree to be installed on Cobargo’s main street — a lasting tribute to the fires and the community’s resilience. With initial sponsorship and resources now exhausted, the project stalled. Philippe and Iain have since sought support from CCDC to complete the Tree, with costs estimated between $50,000 and $90,000. Once the Cobargo Tree is completed it will be installed on the main street of Cobargo in consultation with the community. It will stand as testament, for visitors and future residents, of the community strength displayed in 201920.
