If you’re a purpose-driven leader ready to shape a connected, inclusive, and future-focused people experience, this is your chance to make a genuine difference.

Location: Fitzroy, Melbourne

Job Type: Permanent Full-Time

About BSL

BSL has been part of the Australian social landscape for 90 years, working alongside communities to create lasting change. Every day, our 1,500 staff and 1,000 volunteers deliver life-changing programs from early childhood and youth services, to employment, disability, aged care, social enterprises and research that influences policy at every level.

We know diversity makes us stronger, and we’re committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to thrive.

About the Role

As our new Head of People Experience, you’ll be a key driver in creating the best possible experience for our people and volunteers, every step of their journey with BSL. Reporting to the Director of People, Culture & Engagement, you’ll lead a passionate team working across Volunteer Engagement, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), and Learning & Development.

Your focus will be to shape, embed and continuously improve frameworks and programs that strengthen our culture, build leadership capability, grow talent, and ensure our people feel valued and supported to do their best work now and into the future.

You’ll work hand-in-hand with the Executive Team and senior leaders to bring our People, Culture and Place strategy to life, helping BSL attract, grow and retain a diverse, capable and purpose-driven workforce.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the design and delivery of an integrated People Experience strategy across the entire employee and volunteer lifecycle.
  • Champion best-practice Volunteer Engagement, ensuring our 1,000+ volunteers are welcomed, supported and recognised for their vital contribution.
  • Drive innovative DEI initiatives that help us live our values of equity, inclusion and cultural safety.
  • Develop and embed learning, leadership and talent programs that build capability and help our people thrive.
  • Inspire and coach a team of passionate professionals, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Use people insights and analytics to shape strategy, track progress and tell the story of our impact.

About You

You’re a people leader who knows how to connect vision with practical action. You bring:

  • 7+ years’ senior leadership experience in People & Culture or Organisational Development.
  • Proven expertise designing and delivering people experience strategies that strengthen culture and capability.
  • Deep understanding of best-practice volunteer engagement, DEI, leadership and wellbeing programs.
  • A collaborative, systems thinking, human-centred approach where you build trust, influence at all levels and bring people on the journey.
  • High emotional intelligence, with the resilience and agility to navigate complexity.
  • A commitment to working safely with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Above all, you’re energised by the opportunity to help people and communities thrive.

Why BSL?

Working at BSL means being part of something bigger. You’ll join a diverse, dedicated team who believe in the power of people and communities to drive change. We offer a workplace where curiosity is valued, ideas are heard and work-life balance is respected.

We celebrate diversity and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, communities and lived experiences.

  • A genuinely inclusive, supportive and purpose-driven work environment

  • Flexibility and hybrid work options
