About the role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Youth Residential Support Worker for a part-time role for the Youth Residential Service, that will be available to work 45 hours per fortnight and 36 hours per fortnight (please refer to the rosters below for more details).The Youth Residential program provides crisis accommodation and 24/7 support to young people and young families who reside in the Hope Street refuge in Brunswick West.
Service delivery is based on the enhanced youth refuge model aiming to improve outcomes for young people as a part of a homelessness prevention approach. You will contribute to the safe place where young people and their children are supported to move from a situation of crisis, uncertainty and risk to a situation of calm and empowerment to make decisions about their own lives.
On a day-to-day basis you will:
- Provide support and assistance with living skills, connections with the community, personal and social development, employment, education and training;
- Assist young people to follow up actions from their case management plans including housing, income, education and training, health and wellbeing, general living skills and recreational activities; and
- Complete client file notes as needed and assist with administration duties to help operations run smoothly.
- Foster a safe space, assist and motivate young people to be at their best day to day and to achieve their self-determined goals. Rostering
Roster 1 (45 hrs per fortnight):
- Week1:
- Monday -4:00pm – 11:30pm (sleepover); Tuesday -7:30am – 9:00am.
- Wednesday- 4:00pm – 11:30pm (sleepover); Thursday -7:30am – 9:00am
- Friday -4:00pm – 11:30pm(sleepover); Saturday 7:30am – 9:00am
- Week 2:
- Monday -4.00pm – 11.30pm (sleepover); Tuesday -7.30am – 9.00am.
- Wednesday- 4:00pm – 11:30pm (sleepover); Thursday -7:30am – 9:00am
Roster 2 (36 hrs per fortnight):
- Week 1 & 2:
- Tuesday-4.00pm – 11.30pm (sleepover); Wednesday -7.30am – 9.00am.
- Friday -4:00pm – 11:30pm(sleepover); Saturday 7:30am – 9:00am

ABOUT YOU
You have a bachelor’s degree or are you in your final year of a Social Work, Youth Work, or any other relevant health/ welfare related qualifications
- You have work experience in youth focused practice frameworks such as strengths based or trauma informed practice.
- You have experience or knowledge of crisis accommodation settings including but not limited to youth homelessness.
- You have sector knowledge or experience understanding of young people’s trauma with complex needs, including homelessness, family violence, alcohol, drugs and/or mental illness.
- You pride yourself on your ability to motivate and advocate for clients to achieve outcomes.
- Are you competent using the full suite of Microsoft applications.
