Outline & Purpose of Role:
Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network it has now raised more than $130 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to lead our Communications and Public Affairs Unit. This role is responsible for managing the organisation’s internal and external communications ensuring high standards, integration of communications and continuity of brand.
The role will work with the Fundraising and Digital Units to provide strategic direction in all aspects of communications and stakeholder relations, internally and externally. The role is responsible for growing and enhancing the organisation’s profile with the media, government bodies, and the international aid and charity sectors in Australia and with UNHCR regionally and globally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead the implementation of an Annual Strategic Communications Plan
- Expertly advise senior management across a range of areas including internal communications, stakeholder relations, digital and online media and media relations
- Support the National Director to develop and achieve the organisation’s strategic goals in Communications, Public Engagement and Advocacy including preparation of briefs and submissions
- Act as Advisor to the Executive Team in relation to areas such as media management, reputation management and internal communications
The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:
Essential
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant work experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification in public relations, journalism, marketing or a similar discipline
- Understanding of the international aid sector
