About the role

The Position

The Settlement is seeking a skilled, knowledgeable and dynamic individual to manage our Neighbourhood Centre

The Organisation

The Settlement has operated from its Edward Street Redfern hall since 1920. The Settlement provides access to community facilities, services, information and referral and support for all community members. Some funding programs are aimed at specifically supporting Aboriginal people. The Settlement receives government funding from FACS (EIPP and Community Builders), NSW Health (youth health program) NSW Education and Communities (vacation care and Outside of School Hours Care) and the Property Industry Foundation. The Settlement also has a number of income generating activities including facility rental and private donations. The Settlement owns six flats and three houses that are offered to the Aboriginal community and managed through Bridge Housing, and a further three houses that are let through commercial realty.

Hours & Remuneration
• 38 hrs/week
• 12 – month contract, with contract extension dependent on funding
• Classification: Up to SCHADS Award Level 8 pay point 1 depending on qualifications and experience (plus Salary Packaging)
Reporting Relationships and accountability

The Manager:
• Reports and accounts directly to the Settlement Board of Management.
• Will be expected to provide critical advice, skills and support for the Board.
• Will at times be expected to act with delegated authority from the Board.

Supervisory Responsibilities – Workers, project staff, contractees, volunteers.
The Manager:
• Is responsible for support and supervision of all workers associated with the Neighbourhood Centre projects.
• Is expected to provide leadership within a staff team.
• Has accountability to team/staff meetings and to developing the Centre’s activities through collaborative engagement with program staff.
Selection Criteria

Essential
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong staff support, supervision and management skills (including Case work supervision)
• Community work experience
• Understanding of governance in the NFP sector
• Development of Aboriginal agency and community partnerships
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Capacity to work in a culturally competent framework
• Development and management of policies and procedures

Desired
Experience in:
• Working in a small community organisation
• Change management
• Managing a diverse program and activities
• Planning and evaluation
• Community consultation/ support community involvement
• Tender writing
• Liaising with Board sub-committees such as the housing sub-committee

Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant study area e.g. social welfare, health, social work, community development, community management, education, adult and community education, social ecology or other qualifications in social, behavioural or political sciences are highly desirable. Relevant professional experience in community work and program management can be taken into account.
