• Support the Bar Association to make recommendations with respect to legislative reform
• Administer programs to assist barristers develop and maintain their practices
• Support Association Committees, including Criminal Law and Equal Opportunity Committees
The Organisation
The New South Wales Bar Association seeks to promote the rule of law; promote collegiality and practice development of its members; represent the interests of its members in dealings with government, the broader legal profession, the media and the community, and regulate fair and honourable practice amongst barristers.
The Role
This position supports Bar Association committees to examine proposed changes to the law and has responsibility for preparing submissions for government and law reform agencies. You will contribute to high level policy development, analysis and research for the Bar Association and Bar Council. Additional responsibilities include:
- Secretariat support to various Bar Association committees
- Co-ordinating and finalising submissions for legislative review
- Assisting to co-ordinate programs promoted by the Bar Council and Association Committees
- Legal administration
Skills Required
You have a demonstrated ability to conduct research into complex legal and policy issues with experience in policy areas within government or a mid tier legal practice. You have excellent written skills and strong attention to detail with experience drafting law reform submissions. You will also have:
- An LLB qualification
- A strong commitment to social justice
- Experience preparing agendas and taking minutes
- The ability to cultivate productive working relationships
