The Brotherhood of St Laurence drives change that promotes a compassionate and fair society where everyone lives a life of common dignity. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), is partnering with the Brotherhood of St Laurence to deliver the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Melbourne’s north-east region. This work spans five municipalities – Banyule, Darebin, Nilumbik, Whittlesea and Yarra.

The Local Area Coordinator is a pivotal role in the NDIS and is responsible for providing planning and coordination for people with a disability to maximise their choice and control over the services they receive. This also supports people with a disability to access mainstream services and to increase our community’s capacity to be accessible to and supportive of people with disability.

We are looking for people who have a positive approach to disability with highly developed relationship building skills combined with a passion to improve the lives of people with a disability. Our ideal candidate will consistently meet or exceed performance standards and is recognised as someone who always seeks to improve to the way work is done.

To be successful in this role, you must work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team, adhere to procedures but also contribute to the analysis of their effectiveness and improvement. You are excellent at building supportive relationships with customers and the broader community and you contribute ideas to improve the community’s capacity. You are a clear thinker and can communicate persuasively in person and in writing.

We are especially seeking candidates with experience in the following areas:
• Early Childhood Development
• Autism
• Background or networks within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
• Physical Impairments

Lived experience or awareness of the impact of existing or acquired disability upon individuals, carers and community will be highly regarded. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
