One of NSW’s largest independent medical research institutes, with 1500 researchers conducting “above world-class” translational research [ERA, 2015], is expanding its fundraising capacity.

HMRI Development
HMRI is a pioneer in translational medical research, working in partnership with the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and the community to improve health outcomes in our region and beyond. We enjoy a professional and enthusiastic service-orientated culture with a highly supportive Director, Board and Foundation.
HMRI is co-funded by State Research (MRSP) Funding, commercial enterprise and philanthropy. Donations and bequests contribute 30% of revenues and are imperative to our research and researchers.
We are seeking an experienced and energetic development professional to join our expanding team. Someone who is keen to develop skills in medical philanthropy, particularly in a new grateful patient program.
The Role
This role is part of a team of Development and Marketing professionals and reports to the General Manager, Development & Marketing. Its purpose is to increase the number and value of donations and bequests, with a focus on major gifts via a new Grateful Patient Program. You will be responsible for:
- Working in collaboration with clinicians in hospitals and clinics
- Developing a pipeline of major donors and potential bequestors
- Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with donors, clinicians and colleagues
- Complying with gift governance and reporting requirements
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience in fundraising and/or professional services sales
- Enjoy identifying and engaging with prospective donors or customers
- Have experience in, and appreciation for, customer service or account management
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Have analytical skills – i.e. the ability to assimilate medical/scientific information into a succinct lay summary
- Have University Degree qualifications
- Demonstrate reliable, honest and trustworthy service to donors, customers and/or colleagues
- Demonstrate warmth, respect and friendliness
- Value contributing to the advancement of health, medicine and public health policy
