About the role

About the role

The role of the Counsellor is to provide ongoing professional support to individuals who are resident of the Glen Centre (based at Chittaway Bay, NSW). This includes working in groups, with individuals, supporting participation in activities and implementing weekly routines. The Counsellor is also responsible for liaising with stakeholders and supporting them in organised activities.

Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum Cert IV Drug and Alcohol or Community Services qualifications.
  • LR Driver’s license or ability to get one.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
  • Ability to run group counselling
  • Understanding of 12 steps of AA and NA.
  • Experience with aboriginal people (approx. 60% of clients).
  • Strong administrative and computer skills
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work regular night shifts
  • Ability to work regular day shifts
  • Ability to write court reports and exit plans
  • Desirable: Interest in sport (particularly touch football, soccer, surfing, volleyball and table tennis)

The full time job:

The successful applicants will be offered a full time position but the hours will vary from week to week. The successful applicant may be required to work day, night or weekend shifts. The successful applicant will be entitled to salary sacrifice a portion of the income.

The pay rate will be negotiated depending on experience and qualifications but it is estimated that the total package would be worth approx. $55-65k per year (full time position).
