Background UNICEF is looking to recruit an experienced Fundraising Manager (P4) with strong track record in driving income growth to join its Market Development team. The Market Development team is part of UNICEF’s Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) section and is based in Geneva. The Market Development team is responsible for maximizing Private Sector income from UNICEF National Committees by working closely with Committees to set, resource and implement national PSFR plans that fully leverage market potential and opportunities whilst aligning with UNICEF’s Global Fundraising Strategies. The Fundraising Manager – Market Development plays a key role in securing UNICEF investment funds, deploying technical support from PSFR specialists and bringing relevant best practices to National Committees. About the role

Purpose of Role
The Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) section within UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division works with National Committees and UNICEF country offices to maximize income. There are five units within the PSFR section and the purpose of the Market Development team is to create a holistic view of fundraising opportunities in National Committee markets and to provide central fundraising leadership to drive breakthrough income growth from National Committees. The unit achieves this by working with National Committees to set and implement national PSFR plans and ambitious income targets in alignment with global strategies. The unit ensures UNICEF’s support to, and investment in, National Committees is prioritized so that income growth is optimized and all Committees receive a core level of support from UNICEF.

This exciting and critical role is responsible for maximizing private sector income from a designated group of National Committees. The post holder will work with specified National Committees in developing the right fundraising strategies and portfolio for their market conditions to fully leverage their market potential and to deliver on ambitious growth targets. They will be responsible for ensuring that global best practice is effectively implemented in the specified National Committee.

Primary responsibilities

1. Acts as focal point for the strategic development of PSFR for a designated group of National Committees. Advises on the optimal fundraising portfolio of these countries and the strategies required to maximize opportunities. Works with PSFR specialists to ensure that appropriate support is provided to specified National Committees.
2. Ensures that fundraising plans in the Joint Strategic Plans (JSPs) are aligned with global priorities and maximize opportunities for income growth. This includes advising in the allocation of UNICEF investment funds to National Committees and the preparation of investment proposals.
3. Monitors and evaluates the PSFR performance of specified National Committees identifying strengths and areas for improvement. This includes detailed analysis of annual PSFR results by channel, income type and comparison to long term targets.
4. Supports knowledge management through the stimulation and dynamic exchange of knowledge across fundraising markets and drives the application of global best practice by specified National Committees. Stays in touch with latest thinking and trends in PSFR and contributes to UNICEF’s global fundraising expertise.
5. In relation to PSFR, ensures a risk management approach is taken by specified National Committees, in particular compliance with corporate due diligence processes.
6. Ensures adequate emergency fundraising preparedness plans are in place in specified National Committees and that committees support the maximization of emergency fundraising.

Profile
Experience
• Minimum 8 years relevant work experience with fundraising, marketing, brand management, management consulting and/or strategy, out of which minimum 5 years with fundraising and management responsibility in a leading non-profit organization.
• Preference will be given to candidates with international fundraising experience and those with experience as a Fundraising/Marketing Director with responsibility for significant (i.e. multi-million $) annual income targets and expenditure budgets and for a broad fundraising portfolio i.e. multiple income channels including monthly giving programme, corporate, legacies, major donors, and foundations.
• Knowledge of the UN system is an advantage.

Education
• Advanced university degree in marketing, business administration or equivalent.
• A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Languages
• Fluency in English is required and working knowledge of another UN language is preferred.
• Knowledge of other National Committee languages is an asset.
