Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia is a leading national not-for-profit health promotion charity dedicated to furthering the work of the MHFA Training and Research Program, which was established in 2000 by Betty Kitchener AM and Professor Tony Jorm. Over 500,000 Australians and more than 2 million worldwide have completed Mental Health First Aid training. MHFA Australia is funded by government and philanthropic grants and through the delivery of training programs. MHFA Australia has two strands of core work:
- Training and supporting suitably experienced Instructors to deliver MHFA courses and
- Carrying out research to inform the different MHFA curricula and evaluating course outcomes.
About the role
About the role:
The General Manager will have a major role in organisational development and innovation of the MHFA Program through business development, policy development, human resources, operations and project management. Working closely with the CEO and with five direct reports, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high level executive assistance to the CEO
- Developing and implementing strategies to diversify the organisation’s revenue base
- Ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are developed, implemented and regularly reviewed across all areas of the organisation
- Implementing all human resource management functions
- Managing the implementation of designated funded projects including monitoring of performance against budget and key performance indicators
- Effectively supervising, managing and mentoring direct reports.
Skills required:
To be considered for the role, you’ll have a post graduate qualification in a relevant field preferably in the health or mental health field and at least five years of management experience, preferably in a non-for-profit setting across a number of operational teams.
You have demonstrated success in business development and the ability to build productive relationships with key partnerships across Government, research and industry.
You enjoy solving problems and thinking analytically and creatively to provide innovation solutions to complex issues.
You’re an excellent communicator and presenter.
You have strong project management skills, with proven ability to manage timelines, budgets and meet key performance indicators.
You have previous experience with change management and you are committed to evidence-based practice.
