The Role

A rewarding opportunity has arisen for an experienced aged care professional to oversee our 189 bed residential facility, located in Birkdale QLD.  The DON will ensure effective and sustainable operational performance.  This will be achieved through effective leadership, team management, continuous improvement and operational excellence whilst meeting all accreditation and legislative requirements.  The DON will work effectively as part of our senior management team ensuring the development and growth of MiCare and communicating business changes and strategic direction to staff appropriately. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Overall management of the facility’s day-to-day operations
• Management and administrative tasks related to all requirements for meeting State and Commonwealth regulations, including staffing, equipment, building, clinical needs, resident lifestyle and culture, environment, internal services and external services.
• Mentor, supervise and teach staff ensuring quality services are delivered to residents.
• Ensure clinical governance is current and oversee/implement clinical care needs and systems.
• Undertake general Human Resource management including recruitment, orientation, staff leave and Staff Developmental Evaluations.

What you’ll need to succeed

To be successful, you will:

• Possess excellent leadership ability
• Have a comprehensive understanding of the Aged Care Accreditation Standards, and documentation required for the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI)
• Have knowledge of the Eden Alternative principles and experience in working in an edenising facility
• Have the ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner within an ethno-specific environment
• Have the ability to work with frail and/or confused residents and their families within the Accreditation Standards and funding guidelines

Qualification & Experience Requirements

• Registered Nurse Div 1
• Recognised qualification in Management or Supervisors training
• A minimum of 5 years in Aged Care Management
• Broad clinical background as a Registered Nurse with experience in Aged Care and Residential Care
• At least 5 years’ experience in a senior role which has included staff supervision and program management
