About the organisation
Humane Society International seeks to create an ecologically sustainable and humane world for all animals and their environments. Through education, advocacy and empowerment, we seek to forge a comprehensive change in human behaviour, protecting all wildlife and their habitats.
About the role
WILDLIFE LAND TRUST (WLT)
Project Officer – Full Time
(Based in Avalon on Sydney’s northern beaches)
The Wildlife Land Trust (WLT) is a project of Humane Society International (HSI). HSI and its partner programs together constitute one of the world’s largest NGO activist organisations — backed by 65,000 supporters in Australia.
HSI is seeking a full-time Wildlife Land Trust Project Officer as a key member of our small team on Sydney’s northern beaches, reporting to the WLT Coordinator.
In 2007 Humane Society International launched the Wildlife Land Trust (WLT) Australia, in an effort to help protect our vital native habitats and the wildlife that depends upon them, in a network of voluntary and privately owned sanctuaries throughout the country. The number of member properties is now approaching 500, established in every state and territory. Our goal is to see the protection of `one million acres’ of wildlife habitat across Australia in the sanctuary network.
Self-initiative and drive are essential, as is the ability to form a rapport with a diverse membership base. The person will be required to work closely with a small team of professionals where no job is too small. Responsibilities include but are not limited to WLT member liaison and development of support services, program promotion, website maintenance, research and maintaining correspondence. You will also be required to assist with other aspects of the HSI’s terrestrial conservation program.
Critical requirements: A minimum of one years’ experience working for conservation NGO or a similar community organisation or in an industry/government position related to environmental management. A terrestrial science (e.g. ecology, environmental science) or legal based degree.
Essential requirements: A proven ability to research and write; an ability to think strategically and engage in effective program promotion; and a high competence in computer/IT skills and social networking.
