About the organisation

Organisation Name : NSW Users and AIDS Association (NUAA) via Big Splash

The NSW Users and AIDS Association (NUAA) is governed, staffed and led by people with lived experience of drug use. We provide innovative harm reduction services for people who use drugs and advocate in NSW for improved service delivery and a more rational approach to drug use.

Funded primarily by the NSW Health Department, NUAA provides education, practical support, information and advocacy to users of illicit drugs, their friends, and allies. NUAA has often led the way in developing innovative approaches to peer education and community development, and has contributed to Australia having one of the lowest HIV rates amongst injecting drug users in the world.

About the role

This is a senior role with a focus on program management, policy development and advocacy to ensure that NUAA delivers its mission and strategic aims. The position will deputise for the CEO in their absence.

If you have a strong track record in programs and policy and share NUAA’s vision of improved harm reduction services for people who use drugs, this could be the career opportunity you’ve been looking for.

Using your high level communication skills, you’ll build strong, influential and productive relationships at all levels, with a diverse group of stakeholders. You’ll administer our programs to ensure objectives are met, which includes contract negotiations, writing reports, budget development, resource management, governance and preparation of funding submissions. You will provide input into a variety of policy development processes, facilitate engagement and consultation with other agencies and proactively represent NUAA and the NSW community of people who use drugs.

About you

Your demonstrated experience in a similar role will enable you to lead the development, implementation and evaluation of quality health resources for people who use drugs, with a focus on consumer engagement, BBV prevention and treatment and health service access.

You will have sound strategic and operational planning skills and the ability to influence and facilitate the development of the organisation’s future strategic direction.

Your substantial experience in managing programs and developing policy will also set you in good stead. You will have knowledge of illicit drug use and harm reduction principles and a commitment to the empowerment and human rights of people who use drugs.

Your lived experience of the issues impacting the lives of people who use drugs and/or track record of working or volunteering in the drug user movement will be highly regarded.

This is a unique opportunity for job satisfaction. In addition to improving quality of life every day, your hard work, enthusiasm and commitment will be rewarded with a competitive salary package and the support of a passionate team.
