About the organisation

Organisation Name : Connecting Home

Connecting Home is dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have been traumatised and impacted by being forcibly removed from their families. It is a Victorian based agency that supports survivors of the Stolen Generations across South Eastern Australia.

Connecting Home is committed to walking with the survivor on their healing journey. It does this by providing the tools and resources to enable survivors to determine the goals they seek to achieve. Connecting Home’s approach is holistic with its services, programs and supports encompassing the whole needs of the Stolen Generations and their family.

Connecting Home is NDIS registered, supporting the Stolen Generations and their families with a disability. This significant new role has seen life changing outcomes for some survivors, who to date had received little to no brokerage and support.

About the role

  • Victorian agency supporting survivors of the Stolen Generations across South Eastern Australia
  • Develop a new strategic plan that addresses the future needs of survivors and their families
  • Lead and develop a team that reflects and fosters the true spirit of reconciliation

The Role

This is fantastic opportunity to shape the direction of Connecting Home. Looking to the future of the Stolen Generation’s survivors you will develop a new strategic plan that uses the unique learnings of the organisation to deliver relevant services and contribute to policy. You will develop relationships with stakeholders in government and other Aboriginal organisations and develop strong partnerships that lead to positive outcomes for clients.

This role requires vision working closely with a board of management and leading a diverse team of operational staff. With a focus on strategy and building profile you will oversee the business operations and financial management including holding the role of Company Secretary.

Skills Required

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the needs of Indigenous people who have been removed from their families, community and culture and a commitment to addressing those needs. Ideally you will have held a previous leadership role with an Indigenous organisation in Victoria and will have developed a strong network and a good knowledge of local challenges.

You will have previous experience reporting to boards of management, sound financial management experience including budget management, reporting and Company Secretary responsibilities.

Your ability to look to the future when developing strategy, understand organisational challenges, develop effective partnerships and foster a culture that is on mission with the organisation will be key to your success in this role.
