About the organisation

Organisation Name : SANE Australia

SANE Australia is a national mental health charity working to support the 700,000+ Australians affected by complex mental illness and the 3 million Australians who support and care for them. Their work includes online peer support and information, stigma reduction, suicide prevention, specialist helpline support, research and advocacy. SANE’s vision is an Australia where everyone affected by mental illness lives a long and fulfilling life and SANE’s purpose is to promote the wellbeing of all people affected by complex mental illness.

About the role

  • Use your exemplary people, strategic, financial and operational skills
  • Provide transformational leadership in this next phase of growth
  • Drive social change using business acumen and innovation

SANE currently has a national office in Melbourne and smaller office in Sydney and has recently secured long term funding to support growth, with priority being given to recruiting a Chief Operating Officer who will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.  The purpose of this role is to ensure operational effectiveness and to manage and nurture the organisation’s people and culture, allowing the CEO to continue to play an externally facing role and freeing up other leadership team members to focus on key strategic priorities.

This role will suit someone who is commercially astute, digitally savvy and comfortable with a level of ambiguity during this period of positive change. You will be a respected transformational leader, able to motivate and inspire the SANE team to ensure they leverage exciting growth and development opportunities, specifically in research, advocacy and suicide prevention.

You will provide commercial acumen across finance, HR and IT to ensure the efficient and effective running of the organisation. In addition, you will be responsible for compliance and ensuring efficient, effective and robust internal management practices and applying a continuous improvement methodology throughout the organisation. This will include oversight for the development of a Project Management Office. Critical to success will be the effective use of technology to support change and the development of policies and procedures, and exemplary people and leadership skills to align the organisation’s activities with its strategic objectives and to drive operational excellence.

In addition to your business acumen and leadership skills, you will be a strong communicator with the ability to view situations through multiple lenses, harness a team of passionate values-driven employees and empower others to ensure accountability. Whilst a background in the not-for-profit sector could be an advantage, it is not essential, but you will need to demonstrate / articulate your interest in this sector.

This is a full-time role, with competitive remuneration, located in South Melbourne.
