About the role
The role
This 12 month appointment includes a period of handover alongside the current incumbent.
The Youth Engagement Program Manager will be responsible for leading and managing the implementation of Orygen’s Youth Participation and Engagement Strategy. This strategy aims to provide an overarching framework for the design and delivery of a range of activities that will facilitate youth engagement across the National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health. The Youth Engagement Program Manager will work in partnership with all business units to ensure a range of engagement strategies are implemented that will facilitate meaningful participation of young people in a variety of activities that will put Orygen at the forefront of youth engagement in mental health.
About you
Essential
• A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline including, social work, psychology, youth work or health promotion with substantial relevant experience or extensive experience and management expertise or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
• Exceptional skills in communicating and working with young people in a health or related setting
• Capacity to implement a new program in line with stated strategy objectives
• An ability to work with a broad range of people from different backgrounds and unite them in their work around youth engagement and participation
• A demonstrated commitment and understanding of the principles of youth engagement and participation and how this translates at an organisational level
• A capacity to work independently, work to appropriate timelines and demonstrate problem solving abilities
• An understanding of a research environment and the potential for young people to be engaged in research related activities
• Capacity to work with a rage of external partner organisation also engaged in youth participation activities
• Capacity to manage different project elements at the one time whilst ensuring deliverables are met
• A thorough understanding of Microsoft Office and its relevant programs, use of email, and the internet
Desirable
• An understanding of the present policy context in relation to youth mental health
• Familiarity with mental health services and supports for young people and their families
• Managing organisation requirements versus the desires of young people
• Previous experience of working with young people with mental health issues
