About the Service
Matthew Talbot Hostel is located in the inner city of Sydney and offer crisis accommodation and day center facilities. It is part of the Supported Accommodation and Case Management Division which operates across NSW. Matthew Talbot Hostel provides accommodation for 94 men and a range of day services for clients and visiting men, including those who sleep rough or live in nearby boarding houses and public housing. The Matthew Talbot Hostel relies on the nearly 400 volunteers to meet the operational requirements of supporting the residents and day service users.
About the role
The Role
The Volunteer Coordinator will support and coordinate volunteers at the Matthew Talbot Hostel and other services that operate within the Woolloomooloo site. The role will:
- perform tasks relating to the recruitment of volunteers e.g. prepare monthly volunteer opportunities list; arrange for volunteers to complete application forms and compliance requirements; conduct site tour and induction for new volunteers
- develop relevant procedures, training and induction resources/packages
- prepare roster for all volunteers at the Woolloomooloo site; oversee volunteers’ activities and tasks at the Donations Room
- coordinate the collection of donations; monitor stock and order supplies; fulfil orders for supplies for clients as requested by Case Workers
- organise special events i.e. Volunteer Week, International Volunteers Day, Christmas Day lunch
- maintain financial records for all costs associated to volunteer management
- supervise an Administration Assistant

To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated skills and experience in operations or people management
- Strong commitment to the philosophy, ethos and mission of the St Vincent de Paul Society as a lay Catholic organization,
- Strong written and verbal communication and inter-personal skills.
- Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and extremal stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and interests.
- Experience working with volunteers or in a volunteer capacity.
- Demonstrated understanding of the key client group of the Service and an ability to treat all resident’s/service users of the Service with respect and dignity in an empathetic and compassionate manner.
- Proficiency with computers and and strong technology skills
