ACFID currently has 125 members and 22 affiliates operating in more than 92 developing countries delivering over 3,400 international projects worth $1.1bn. Our membership is made up of over 4,800 employees, 1,200 overseas volunteers and over 30,000 domestic volunteers.
ACFID’s members must comply with the ACFID Code of Conduct, a voluntary, self-regulatory sector code of good practice that aims to improve international development and humanitarian action outcomes and increase stakeholder trust by enhancing the transparency, accountability and effectiveness of signatory organisations. About ACMC
The Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) is an Australian Government initiative supporting the development of Australia’s civil-military-police capabilities to prevent, prepare for and respond more effectively to conflict and disaster management overseas.
The ACMC works with government, civil society, and international partners, including the United Nations, to improve the outcomes of civil-military-police crisis responses in Asia and the Pacific, and globally. ACMC develops and promotes good practice in civil-military-police approaches to conflict and disaster management, where success results from the ability of personnel from all sectors to plan collaboratively, resource appropriately, and respond quickly through an integrated and joined up approach.
The ACMC comprises staff drawn from Australian government departments and agencies, the New Zealand government and the Australian Council for International Development. Portfolio responsibility resides with the Minister for Defence.
About the role
The Role
The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) unites Australia’s non-government aid and international development organisations to strengthen their collective impact against poverty.
As ACFID’s Civil Society Liaison Advisor you will be seconded to the Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) to broker, convene and link the stakeholder networks of both ACFID and the ACMC, as well as strengthen understanding between these two stakeholder groups, particularly on the role, mandate and guiding principles of NGO engagement in humanitarian action.
You will facilitate opportunities for ACFID member NGOs to: provide their independent perspective on matters relevant to humanitarian response; improve awareness and coordination in civil-military-police engagement and preparedness; and input into processes that shape government policy and decisions.
As Civil Society Liaison Advisor you will be part of ACFID’s Policy and Advocacy team, a small and agile team made up of development and humanitarian policy, advocacy and communications specialists who are seeking to achieve a strong policy and enabling environment for international development assistance and humanitarian action in Australia.
You will work from ACFID one day a week, and spend your remaining time seconded to ACMC’s Concepts and Capabilities Directorate which brings together cross-agency programs on new and emerging civil-military-police concepts (such as Women, Peace and Security and Protection of Civilians), with programs that support the development of civil-military-police capability through preparedness, lessons and evaluation, research, and humanitarian-government coordination.
The Team

What we can offer you
- A salary between $74,514.54 to $86,711.25 (negotiable, depending on the skills and experience of the candidate) plus 9.5% superannuation. Under current taxation laws, up to $15,900 of the base salary may be taken as a tax-free fringe benefit.
