About the organisation

The Natural Resources Conservation League of Victoria (NRCL), was formed in 1951 from its predecessor, the Save the Forests Campaign, which was formed in 1944 in the aftermath of the 1939 bushfires.  The organisation celebrates a longstanding contribution to the conservation of Victoria’s natural resources.  Its vision is to be an innovative and strategic leader in the promotion of conservation ideas and actions that value, protect and enhance ecosystems in an environment impacted by a growing population, climate change and increasing demand on our natural resources.

About the role

  • Qualified and experienced lawyer
  • Demonstrated passion for, and commitment to the environment and sustainability
  • Experience as and an understanding of what it means to be a Board Director is essential

The Board of the Natural Resources Conservation League (NRCL) is actively recruiting to appoint up to three new Directors to commence in the second half of 2019.

An immediate priority is the appointment of a Director with extensive and relevant legal expertise and experience, based in Victoria.

Initially, the Board is seeking suitable candidates who are qualified and experienced lawyers, with a demonstrated passion for, and commitment to the environment and sustainability. Experience as, and understanding of what it means to be a Board Director is essential.

The appointment will complement and extend the skills and capacities of the current Board at an exciting stage in the direction of the organisation, providing an opportunity to help shape its future.

The appointee will participate in the development of strategic objectives for 2020-2025 and contribute to the effective oversight of their implementation through board processes. Significantly, the NRCL is establishing a new charitable trust that will undertake strategic and innovative grant making to build the capacity of community-based organisations in the conservation and natural resource management sectors.

The NRCL is committed to having a Board that reflects diversity of age, gender and cultural backgrounds. Regional representation is especially significant.

Currently there are four Directors on the Board including the Chair, and the Constitution allows for up to seven. One Director is retiring after seven years of continued service.

This voluntary Board meets monthly.  A governance charter and associated policies are in place, with an annual review to ensure currency and relevance (see www.nrcl.org.au).
