RSL Queensland is a successful, well-run and highly effective organisation with a supportive and deeply-connected board. It is one of seven state branches of the Returned and Services League of Australia. Its purpose is to promote members’ interests and provide support to current and returned service men and women and their families. Its services are funded by the most successful charitable lottery in the world and include advocacy, health, accommodation and employment services, emotional support services and driving initiatives that address challenges faced by the membership.

We are seeking an experienced operational, service delivery leader to grow and evolve the current services to the benefit of veterans and their families.  The key priories of this pivotal role, as an integral member of the Executive Leadership team, will be:

  • Develop and implement a strategy to support the design and delivery of veteran services aligned to the needs of the veteran community
  • Lead a large, geographically spread team to provide exceptional services, driving a culture of connection and unity
  • Review current services in concert with the needs of the ADF community
  • Collaborate with the government and other key partners to deliver programs and services
  • Play a key role in membership engagement and retention strategies – amplifying the voice of the veteran to strengthen the RSL Qld connection and supports its Mission
  • Drive continuous improvement, always looking for ways to improve services and their delivery mechanisms
  • Be a key advocate across the membership, the ADF community and more broadly to ensure Veteran needs are met

The General Manager, Veteran Services (Operations) joins a highly effective Executive Leadership team, led by a new and energised CEO, with a passion to ensure the organisation remains connected to purpose and provide long-term financial sustainability in order to better-deliver and expand member services.  The role leads a large and growing team who are committed and passionate.

To be successful you must be an experienced leader with deep knowledge of veteran affairs and the needs of the ADF community. Preference is for experience in either Defence, Welfare, Advocacy or a related discipline. You must have developed strategic and operational plans and executed improved and new services as a result. Important will be your exceptional communication and people engagement skills and ability to lead change in a complex environment.
