About the Role:
The PASDS Practitioner operates within the Parenting Assessment and Skills Development Service (PASDS) working with families that have children between 0 and 3 years who are current DHHS clients. PASDS provides a flexible and tailor-made service to meet families’ specific needs, assesses whether children are growing up in a safe environment and parenting capacity. It also assesses whether parents can learn new skills to nurture and meet a child’s intellectual, emotional and physical needs. From this, a skills development program is implemented to build on areas of strengths. This work is guided by goals set by parents, the PASDS Practitioner and the DHHS Child Protection Practitioner.

Skills and Experience:
* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent (essential)
* Minimum of two years’ experience post qualification working with children and families 
* Qualifications in Family Therapy, Child Development and Trauma (desirable)
* Excellent family assessment skills to assess parenting competency, capacity, and family functioning
* Demonstrated experience in working with high risk infants, children, adolescents and complex families

* Well-developed understanding of child development and trauma

Duties:
* Complete holistic and comprehensive assessments of family functioning, parenting capacity and safety, stability and developmental needs of children primarily aged 0-3 years, but up to 18 years.
* Provide intensive short-term interventions to families to improve parenting capacity, family functioning and the safety, stability and development of their children.
* Write comprehensive assessment reports and maintain records including case notes, plans and statistics within required timelines.
* Develop and maintain effective relationships with Child Protection, other government and community organisations
