About the role

The purpose of the Families First program is to provide intensive in-home family preservation services by working alongside families to address identified protective concerns and enhance family functioning.

Providing an intensive outreach service to families in their environment, the Case Worker works in partnership with the Child Protection worker and is responsible for providing a comprehensive assessment and intervention report at closure of the intervention, and regular updates throughout.

Working on two interventions at any one time, the aim of the Case Worker is to prevent unnecessary out-of-home care for children and young people, while ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

About you

With previous experience in a similar role, you will have a strong understanding of the issues involved in casework with children, young people and their families from CALD backgrounds and Aboriginal families. You will have proven knowledge and experience across a range of relevant intervention strategies and frameworks including children’s developmental needs, child abuse and neglect, parent skill development, the cycle of violence, reflective child and family work practices.

Critical to this role is your ability to undertake assessments that identify the needs, strengths and risks in families and individuals, along with the ability to formulate recommendations that focus on the safety of the child, family functioning and parental wellbeing. With experience working in a deadline driven environment, you work well under pressure and have demonstrated experience meeting timelines and targets.

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work or equivalent including Psychology, Family Therapy, Youth or Early Childhood Development are essential to this role.
