About the organisation
Operating since 1945, The Portsea Camp is one of Australia’s best camps for children and is located in one of the most beautiful parts of Victoria.
For over 70 years, thousands of Victorians have enjoyed a Portsea Camp experience, with many returning as volunteers or visitors in recognition of their life-changing experiences.
However, maintaining a competitive camp experience on the site is challenging as The Camp strives to remain an industry leader, retain accreditation under the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program, strengthen its employee engagement, increase volunteer numbers, develop relationships with corporate, community and funders and grow its commercial camps to fund operations.
The Children’s Camps represent an important focus of the Portsea Camp. These currently run over eight weeks during school holidays. Facilities are available for hire at other times for general camps and they provide a cost- effective way for groups to enjoy a holiday at this picturesque site.
The Camp’s CEO of 23 years recently retired and a new CEO is being sought to work with the Board and lead the operational staff and volunteers, community and corporate sponsors to:
● Promote The Camp as a primary recreation facility supporting children with specific needs;
● Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan;
● Ensure The Camp’s education and recreation programs are developmentally appropriate;
● Ensure activities are inclusive to all children;
● Engage with the community to enable The Camp to operate flexibly; and
● Promote The Camp as an attractive budget holiday destination for large groups.
About the role
Reporting to the Board of Directors, The Camp is looking for someone with established leadership experience, proven innovation skills, strong commercial acumen and business development proficiency. In this role, the CEO will be required to support the established camp operations, pilot growth and seek new opportunities to realise the mission of the organisation. As the public face, the CEO will be comfortable telling the story of The Camp to engage the communities it serves.
Compassion, respect and care must be central to all the CEO does. At the core, the CEO will need to develop and drive business planning, management, budgets and strategies for consideration by the Board and, to the extent approved by the Board, the CEO shall be responsible for implementing plans, budgets and strategies. Notably, The Camp is in the midst of a Strategic Review and it is expected that the incoming CEO will assess the findings and recommendations of the Review as part of the development of a full Strategic Plan.
