About the role

The Philanthropy and Bequests Manager will drive the acquisition, engagement, management and retention of Beyond Blue’s major donors and gift in will supporters. The ideal candidate will be relationships focused. They will have a proven ability to cultivate and nurture new and existing relationships with donors and have an adept understanding of the personal attributes required to foster these relationships. They will have the demonstratable skills, knowledge & experience to develop and implement a long-term strategy and program of work for core major donors and gift in wills supporters. They will be passionate and strategic in their engagement.

This role is a critical interface with significant internal and external stakeholders with a focus on estate management, major donor acquisition and relationship cultivation. This is a relatively new role, providing opportunity for the candidate to make their mark on this green field area of fundraising.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Development & implementation of acquisition, engagement and growth strategies for major donors and gift in wills to cultivate and steward high value supporters and bequestors.
  • Identification of funding needs across Beyond Blue and develop donor-centric proposals that are likely to inspire and attract financial support from individual major donors.
  • Management of contact with donor prospects, gift in will donors and the administration of Estates on a centralized moves management database.
  • Personal solicitation and asking for philanthropic gifts.
  • Manage donor cultivation and recognition events and represent Beyond Blue at key engagement events.
  • Development, monitoring and accurate revision of revenue & expenditure budgets for the major donor and gift in wills portfolio. Progress reports on income streams, recognition of opportunities and barriers, and the ability to find effective solutions.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in a related discipline (fundraising, marketing, business development, community engagement, communications).
  • A strong knowledge of the philanthropic culture in Australia, with a particular focus on philanthropy fundraising and gifts in wills.
  • High level communications skills, both written and verbal communications, including an ability to prepare, pitch and deliver fundraising proposals.
  • Membership of the Fundraising Institute of Australia would be favourably regarded.

The successful applicant will also have strong skills in relationship management and the ability to build constructive and trusted working relationships that are characterized by acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect.
