About the role

Uniting Vic.Tas (Uniting) is the new community services arm of the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania. Uniting is the coming together of 26 UnitingCare agencies and two church business units – uniting for greater change. The Purpose of the organisation is “To inspire people, enliven communities and confront injustice”.

The Board of Uniting Vic.Tas is seeking to appoint an outstanding and experienced person as Chair to lead its Board following the appointment of the incumbent Board Chair, Ms Bronwyn Pike, to the position of Chief Executive Officer. This is an opportunity to succeed Ms Pike as Chair and to steer the organisation through its next exciting phase of integration, transformation, innovation and growth.

The Board is seeking suitable candidates who are qualified and experienced as a Chair, Director, CEO or equivalent, with a demonstrated passion for, and commitment to community services and an understanding of what it means to be Board Chair. Relevant strategic and business vision experience in a change environment in the public or private sectors will be valued, as will an understanding of revenue and fund-raising in the not for profit arena, including major gifts, and the impact of social media. Strong public facing communication skills, and broad networks and relationships with key influencers in corporate and commercial, government, health and aged care-related fields, and not for profit are required.

It is not a mandatory requirement to be a member of the Uniting Church however it is expected that the appointee will bring an understanding of working in and cultural fit with a faith-based organisation.

The Chair may be located in Melbourne, or elsewhere in Victoria or in Tasmania and have the required time and availability to commit to the Board Chair role, and mission and purpose of Uniting.

Currently there are nine (9x) Directors on the Board including the Chair. One Director will be retiring early next year. The Board meets 9 times per annum, plus the AGM. Several of the Committee meetings are held on the same days, but not on the same day as the Board meetings, with two additional Annual Public Meetings and some time commitments to the Synod of the Uniting Church required to attend various fora.

The position is remunerated at an appropriate level.
