About the organisation
IDRS is the Intellectual Disability Rights Service, which is a NSW not-for-profit based in Sydney but with operations throughout NSW. It has been in operation for over twenty five years, and is highly respected by our clients and funders alike.
Our purpose is to provide support and advocacy for people with intellectual disability and related conditions such as cognitive impairment and acquired brain injury.
IDRS is a free service for people with cognitive impairment across NSW. We provide help with legal problems, support persons at police stations and courts, advocacy, support to appeal decisions of the National Disability Insurance Agency, rights education for people with cognitive impairment, peer support and assistance for parents with intellectual disability at risk of losing care of their children. We work alongside people with cognitive impairment to promote and protect rights. Our website, at idrs.org.au provides more details of our background and purpose, as well as annual reports and other details.
Recently as a result of a contract awarded by the NSW government we have substantially increased in size. As a result, as a board, we are very keen to recruit a person to attend our Board meetings and record and circulate Board minutes.
About the role
IDRS is seeking a person would most likely have not-for-profit company secretarial skills who would attend our board meetings 6 or possibly 12 times a year, and take minutes and handle the electronic distribution and filing of board materials and reports. This position will report to the chair of the board of IDRS, and will attract an honorarium to be agreed. It is possible that attendance at board sub committee meetings might be required.
