About the organisation
The Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria (OCAV) is a charity providing accommodation and care for older Victorians in need. The Association was founded in 1869 and began its life on an acreage of land in Fitzroy North gifted by the State government. Today we care for 500 older Victorians across four sites including an 81 bed aged care facility at one. Our continuum of care model enables our residents to transition through independent living, assisted living and aged care, as their care needs change, all under the OCAV umbrella.
About the role
The Council is the Association’s governing body. The Council consists of 8-10 volunteers with a variety of professional, academic and community backgrounds. The Council meets 6-7 times per year. Councillors are also part of at least one committee. Committees meet 3-4 times each year.
The primary responsibilities of the Council include setting the Vision and overall strategic direction, ensuring an effective governance and risk management framework, monitoring resident welfare and organisational performance. The Council works collaboratively and is passionate about delivering quality housing and care outcomes for our elders.
The Council seeks to attract a diversity of skills and would currently welcome a person with clinical/gerontological expertise to guide and support the Council in fulfilling its resident welfare and clinical governance responsibilities. Previous Board/Governance experience would be an advantage.
