About the organisation
Vision
Improving well being of people and communities in Melbourne’s West.
Overview
Volunteer West is a volunteer resource centre that operates across the western metropolitan region of Melbourne. Our aim is to increase effective volunteering in the west and harness resources and partnerships that increase the profile of volunteering and improve the volunteer experience.
Services
The Volunteer Program is a matching service whereby volunteer opportunities are advertised and prospective volunteers are invited to attend an interview, discuss their interests and be referred to a community organisation. This service is provided by volunteers and is targeted to people who are disadvantaged.
Volunteer West provides information, support and network meetings for 256 community organisations. These range from very small groups run entirely by volunteers to large charities. We also offer training services to our Volunteer Manager Network as part of their professional development and community capacity building.
Volunteer West also manages projects, such as volunteering expos, promotes volunteering, conducts research and lobbies all levels of government to advocate for the needs of people in Melbourne's West.
About the role
Volunteer West, based in Altona, promotes volunteering, assists people to find volunteering opportunities and builds the capacity of managers of volunteers. We also advocate for issues affecting people in the west and undertake research to better understand these needs.
We are seeking a dynamic CEO, with experience leading not-for-profit organisations, to provide services in an environment of continuous improvement and work with the Committee of Management to grow the organisation. Leading a small staff team and group of volunteers, the CEO is responsible for strategic development, planning, financial control and day-to-day management.
The CEO needs to be a highly skilled leader, prepared to both lead at a high level, setting new directions, generating revenue for sustainability and growth, whilst also being hands on with many of the aspects of the role. Using finely honed communication skills the CEO is required to build and maintain excellent relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, politically, within the not-for-profit sector and internally.
