About the organisation

Organisation Name : One Eighty Avalon Inc.

We’re a rapidly growing youth mental health charity, founded in early 2017 in response to a number of youth suicides on the Northern Beaches. We founded One Eighty because we knew that suicide was preventable. We wanted to see youth mental health done differently. At the time of founding the organisation, we weren’t really sure what this meant - or what this would look like - but we instinctively knew that something just wasn’t right with the way young people were interacting with mental health services. There was a clear stigma around mental illness and help seeking, and a distinct lack of services in the local area - the nearest headspace was over an hour away.

What was also clear to us, was that young people needed greater representation in the mental health sector. There needed to be a clear, youth voice, that agitated for change and worked with existing services to ensure available help was accessible and engaging for a diverse range of young people.

Run by young people, for young people, One Eighty fills this gap in Australia's current suicide prevention strategy. The organisation is leading the way for peer to peer models of community support, is raising the profile of exceptional existing services, and is reimagining what youth engagement in the NFP sector looks like.

About the role

This is a pretty key role in our organisation! Essentially, you’ll be working with senior management to ensure our in-house programs run smoothly throughout the year. You’ll help to plan and coordinate the delivery of One Eighty programs at schools and in the community, and track program expenses to a predetermined budget. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining relationships with 3rd party workshop and training providers, schools, and other community venues, to ensure that our rollout schedule is met.

You’ll also be the go-to person for our team of awesome facilitators. This is the team that run our Open Up sessions on a weekly basis. This means that you’ll be required to provide some administration support and TLC for these teams, and will be responsible for interviewing and onboarding new team members.

BENEFITS OF WORKING AT ONE EIGHTY

  • Awesome team environment
  • Access to a staff wellbeing program
  • Internal and external mentoring
  • Flexible working arrangements

ABOUT YOU

You’re a people-person at heart. You’re motivated, fun, passionate about the youth mental health sector, and super-duper organised (we can’t stress this point enough!). You’re great at communicating in any situation, no matter how time sensitive, unique or challenging. You can write well and are a stickler for grammar and punctuation. You have an ability to build rapport with a variety of individuals (particularly young people!), and can collaborate in a fast-paced team environment. You have a great work ethic, can work independently and use your own initiative, can think outside of the box, have strong time management skills, and a passion for producing high quality work.

A few other things we’ll need from you:

  • Some experience coordinating programs or events (preferably within community outreach/engagement space)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of, or experience working within the mental health sector (not necessary but a huge plus for our line of work!)
