The Opportunity

The Team Leader position will provide leadership, direction and support to family violence therapeutic counsellors and group facilitators employed within the family violence program. The role proactively ensure broad engagement with other VACCA programs. 

This position will contribute to the quality development and implementation of the program which delivers 1:1 trauma informed therapeutic counselling and cultural healing groups to a broad range of clients. This may be across one or more locations.

This position will provide staff with regular professional supervision and appropriate development and training opportunities to provide a quality service and will receive therapeutic professional supervision from the Family Violence Principal Practitioner.

To be considered for this role you must demonstrate:

  • Commitment to VACCA’s vision and purpose.
  • Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal culture and values and the importance of identity, and cultural connections in the healing process for Aboriginal children and families
  • A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, family therapy or a related discipline or a Certificate IV in a relevant field along with demonstrated experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the successful delivery a range of appropriate therapeutic healing interventions to Aboriginal women, men, children and families
  • A comprehensive understanding of the dynamics and impact of family violence in Aboriginal families
  • A proven ability to develop, manage and lead a team in quality practice with a demonstrated capacity to:
    • Engage successfully with Aboriginal staff and clients
    • Assess and manage risk for highly vulnerable children and families
    • Effectively manage conflict
    • Assess staff competencies and needs
  • A well-developed understanding of attachment and trauma theories and an ability to assist others understand the implications of these.
  • You must have and continue to hold a full Victorian Driver’s Licence and a current employment working with children check card.
  • Commitment to VACCA’s vision and purpose.
