About the organisation

Organisation Name : Australian Futures Project

Australia’s only non-partisan, non-profit organisation working to end short-termism in Australia. We gather data and insights about how well Australia’s future-making system is working. Based on this research, we work to shift the national discourse from short-term problems to long-term solutions, identify and create solutions to improve the system where it’s most broken, and provide our expertise in systems and complexity to support other organisations who are aligned with our mission and values.

The Australian Futures Project is a tax-exempt, non-profit company limited by guarantee and registered as a charity with the ACNC. For more information, please visit australianfutures.org.

About the role

ROLE

The non-profit Australian Futures Project (AFP) is seeking a Program Officer to join our team. The Officer’s key role will be to assist in the planning and administration of our Parliamentary Leaders Program, our proven course for Parliamentarians from all parties, designed to strengthen and grow their capability to respond to the challenges of the 21st Century and help hone their leadership style and expand their influence through the lens of values and purpose. The Parliamentary Leaders Program is in its sixth year and has been delivered to two cohorts of federal and four cohorts of state parliamentarians. Over the next three years, our focus is on (i) scaling the program to meet our target of having 20% of all sitting parliamentarians as alumni by the end of 2022, (ii) building the alumni community and offerings, and (iii) developing and implementing a strategy to engage alumni in work that can influence and change the system itself.

The Program Officer will work closely with the Director of Programs to administer and operationalise the running of the Parliamentary Leaders Program and its corollary of events of activities including the alumni program and, in some cases, will be involved in the delivery. Around 20% of their time will be devoted to other AFP projects.

The Parliamentary Leaders Program was relaunched in 2019 with renewed focus and enjoyed its most successful year to date. 2020 is about harnessing this momentum. This program is in a critical stage of being scaled and this role is an invaluable opportunity for a highly-organised individual with an interest in the development of programs designed to build the capacity of leaders to address complex opportunities and challenges facing Australia.

This is a 12-month full-time or part-time (depending on preferred candidate’s preferences) contract with possibility of extension. A three-month probation period applies.
