Media & Communications Generalist (Aid Worker)

Australian Red Cross is recruiting Media and Communications Generalists to join our international aid worker (delegate) register.

We deploy Media & Communications delegates in response to international humanitarian events such as natural disasters or protracted crises. Most often this is as an inject to response operations of the International Federation of Red Cross or Red Crescent or Red Cross National Societies.

The Media & Communications Generalist profile broadly covers the following areas:

• Media relations
• Social media management
• Public information (for example web content and mass communications)
• Reputational risk management
• Audio visual content and/or production

Media & Communications Generalists initiate, develop and execute internal and external communications strategies that serve to achieve positive visibility for Red Cross relief and recovery efforts and position Movement partners as lead responders to the disaster/crisis. This role entails a close working relationship with local RCRC communications counterparts and news media outlets; as well as international news media. The Media & Communications Generalists are often part of the first teams responding to disasters and crises; as such their ability to operate safely and independently in extremely challenging environments is pivotal to their success, and that of the broader team.
