About the organisation

Organisation Name : Transparency International Australia

Transparency International is a global movement which plays a leading role in combatting corruption.  It works with government, business, civil society and citizens to stop the abuse of power, bribery and secret deals which are widely recognised to be serious impediments to economic development and a de-stabilising social force.

Transparency International Australia (TIA) is one of more than 100 national chapters worldwide. TIA has been operating as an accredited Transparency International Chapter since 1995, focussing on ways in which Government and Australian-based companies and institutions can address corruption issues. TIA plays an important role in the TI movement through the delivery of the global Accountable Mining Programme and responsibility for this multi-country initiative involving 20 TI chapters.

About the role

Transparency International Australia is looking to appoint a Chair and one or two Directors.

The TIA Board guides the organisation’s strategy, growth, and direction and ensures compliance with board duties and obligations. The Board is responsible for operating in a manner that is consistent with, and contributes to, the global Transparency International movement. The Board of TIA is looking to appoint up to three Board level roles: a new Chair and one or two Board Directors.

The Chair’s primary role is to lead the TIA Board and set the governance standards for the organisation. The Chair, working closely with the CEO, will champion the work of TIA with key stakeholders, including government, business, civil society and the media and would be expected to have a high profile and strong but independent connections in these circles. The Chair will support and engage with the global TI movement.

The Director roles will require previous experience of working at board level and have specific expertise covering all or some of the following areas: fundraising and philanthropy, senior legal practice, international development, government relations, and responsible business conduct.

In addition, candidates for all roles will need to demonstrate high levels of personal integrity, a strong understanding of director’s legal and fiduciary responsibilities, high-level inclusive communication skills and a sophisticated understanding of governance and strategic planning.

The Board meets four or five times a year in Melbourne or Sydney in person, or by video link.

The roles are not remunerated but reasonable travel expenses to attend meetings will be reimbursed.
