Brief Intervention Program (AOD) Counselling & Support Worker

The Role: 

VincentCare Victoria is seeking an appropriately-qualified person to take on the position of Brief Intervention Program Counselling and Support Worker.

The key function of the Brief Intervention Worker is to provide brief interventions to men and women accessing the Homelessness Resource Centre and residents in accommodation units at Ozanam House who are experiencing AOD issues. The program provides clients with opportunistic engagements consisting of harm reduction, education and information, counselling support, group work, peer mentoring, recreational activities, assistance with navigating the AOD sector functions, and facilitating pathways to AOD, health, and support services. The role reports to the Senior Worker of the program.

Selection Criteria: 

  • Has AOD qualifications & direct experience in the delivery of early intervention strategies working with  people experiencing dependence challenges;
  • Has experience providing AOD counselling to clients
  • Experience working with highly marginalised clients in a crisis setting (desired)
  • Has  experience  navigating the AOD service system;
  • Works within a person-centred and harm minimisation approach;
  • Has the ability to work  collaboratively & contribute to a positive team culture;
  • Has highly developed written, verbal & interpersonal skills;
  • Has strong administrative and computer skills.
