About the organisation
The Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF) is an independent, not-for-profit established to transition the City of Yarra business and residential community to a net zero carbon future by 2030 – focusing on stationary energy.
Established by Yarra City Council in 2010, YEF receives critical core funding support from the Council and is governed by an independent board of highly skilled and experienced professionals.
To achieve its mission, the foundation’s strategic objectives are:
- To engage, identify pathways, and enable local Yarra businesses and residents to achieve a zero-carbon future
- Accelerate identifying and implementing strategic projects to scale carbon reduction and uptake of renewables and energy efficiency products and services
- Achieve organisational sustainability

The Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF) is an independent, not-for-profit established to transition the City of Yarra business and residential community to a net zero carbon future by 2030 – focusing on stationary energy.
In this voluntary position, you will lead a capable and diverse Board and CEO to deliver YEF’s Purpose including emerging opportunities outlined in the Yarra City Council’s Climate Emergency Plan.
With a community focus in mind, you will be responsible for mobilising the YEF Board to build trusted and transparent relationships with the Yarra City Council, community groups and businesses.
You will help unlock opportunities, via your networks, to support sustainable growth and increase impact. This includes building relationships with key stakeholders and potential partners among all levels of government and within the carbon, sustainability and energy sectors.
We are looking for a Chair with previous Board experience and an understanding of the City of Yarra community and Yarra City Council Climate Emergency Plan. Ideally the Chair will have a company director qualification and a working knowledge of the risk and opportunities within the energy and sustainability sector.
