Intake Officer
Applications for these vacancies are available to People with Disability only.
SSI is proud to be a partner in the provision of NDIS Local Area Coordination services and they would like to ensure that their workforce reflects the communities they work with. As part of this they want to lift the number of people with lived experience of disability working with SSI. Therefore, for their intake of an Intake Officer they would like to see applications from people with disability.

About our client
Settlement Services International (SSI) is a community organisation and social business that supports newcomers and other Australians to achieve their full potential. They work with people with a refugee and asylum-seeking background, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, people with disability, youth and children and more to build capacity and enable them to overcome inequality. SSI is a member of the Australian Network on Disability (AND) which seeks to advance the inclusion of people with disability in the workplace.

About the opportunity
SSI has partnered with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to deliver Local Area Coordination Services in the South West Sydney and Sydney districts of NSW. As a Local Area Coordinator (LAC), SSI supports people aged 7 and over to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and other mainstream services in the community.

The LAC Intake Team is designated as the first point of contact for all new participants and is responsible for effectively and efficiently screening NDIS participant records to ensure that all relevant participant/family/carer information is accurate and secure. The Intake Officer is responsible for providing information, and support to callers and booking Participant appointments with LAC Planners. They will also manage feedback and complaints, escalating as appropriate to relevant teams for resolution. The Intake Team also provides general information and assist with connection to mainstream services and local community, ensuring all reportable interactions are recorded via the NDIA Business System.

Training opportunities
As an Intake Officer you will have great opportunities to achieve positive outcomes for people with disability and your ability to communicate with both participants, their families and carers will be extremely valuable. SSI will provide training to ensure your success in this role.

About your experience
  • Knowledge and experience working in the human services sector (e.g. disability, aged care etc.), and/or lived experience of disability;
  • Experience working at a contact centre, customer services or similar role would be beneficial;
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise across all levels both internally, externally and with people from diverse backgrounds;
  • Experience providing professional and friendly customer service to the community;
  • Organisational and time management skills with the ability to plan workload, prioritise and meet deadlines;
