About the organisation

Organisation Name : Motor Neurone Disease Association of Victoria

MND Victoria is dedicated to providing the best possible support to people living with motor neurone disease (MND). ‘People living with MND’ includes people who have been diagnosed, families, carers, former carers, friends, workmates, service providers and any other person whose life is, or has been, affected by MND.

MND Victoria was formed in 1981 by a group of volunteers with the strong involvement of people with MND, their families, health professional and other concerned people to address the absence of a coordinated response to MND. It is a state-wide not-for-profit organisation, predominately self- funded situated in Canterbury in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Services to people living with MND and some other unrepresented neurological diseases, that cause disability, are delivered at no cost to the client. They are coordinated and provided through MND Support Services. Volunteers are a vital part of MND Victoria and work across most program areas.

Through a collaborative partnership with MND Tasmania, MND Victoria offers information and advisor services to people in Tasmania impacted by MND.

About the role

MND Victoria provides high quality services and support to people living with Motor Neurone Disease across Victoria and Tasmania.

Exciting new part time role (.6FTE) for someone who is:

  • Looking for a new challenge?
  • An experienced health professional who is committed to working with people with progressive neurological conditions
  • A person with a “can do” approach with an interest in exploring different ways of supporting people
  • Not afraid of using technology to connect with people!

We are seeking an experienced and passionate person to develop our Keeping Connected Service. The Keeping Connected Service works with people over 65 years of age with MND in both Victoria and Tasmania who either have a slower progressing disease course or have a stable support network and environment, but would still benefit from regular contact from a qualified Advisor to provide them with information and link them into appropriate services as and when their needs may change.

The advice and support activities will predominantly be carried out over the phone, email or by virtual technology either in a one on one capacity or in groups.

The Keeping Connected Advisor will also offer support, information and education to carers, and the staff of Residential Aged Care facilities where people with MND reside.

The Advisor will work collaboratively with the broader MND Advisor and Support Coordination team as service users may move between teams as their needs change and more intensive support is required.

You will be joining a small team of 30 highly committed professionals in a rewarding and caring environment.
