Social Ventures Australia (SVA) is a not-for-profit organisation that works with partners to alleviate disadvantage – towards an Australia where all people and communities thrive. The SVA Impact Investing team connects private capital to the social sector, developing opportunities for investors seeking a risk-adjusted return alongside measurable social impact. SVA is a leader in the Australian impacting investing market and was awarded Impact Investing Asset Manager of the Year at the 2018 Impact Investing Summit Conference.
The Impact Investing team’s mandate is domestic and covers unlisted debt, private equity, real assets, and infrastructure investments. SVA has a broad and established investor base, ranging from high net worth’s, trusts and foundations and large superannuation funds.
You will be responsible for providing legal, risk and compliance advice and support to the Impact Investing team. The role will help ensure that SVA complies with its regulatory obligations as an Australian financial services licensee, as well as its contractual obligations to investors and counterparties, and effectively manage its strategic and operational risks in its impact investing activities.
You will work closely with the Impact Investing team to develop, negotiate, and document fund structures and investments, assist with due diligence and capital raising, and advise on legal aspects of operational frameworks, systems, and processes. You will also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Director, Legal Risk & Compliance to ensure there is an integrated approach to the provision of legal, risk and compliance support across the organisation.
Who you are
If you have a passion for working in the social sector, are driven by excellence, and have a strong analytical and practical approach to solving legal, commercial and operational issues, this is the role for you! You will come to the position with senior experience in financial services (legal and compliance) from the funds management or fundraising teams of top tier law firms or strong experience in-house in a funds management or investment banking business.
A collaborative and pro-active approach to building supportive internal relationships and working across diverse internal and external stakeholders will see you successful in this role.
