About Health Justice Australia
Health Justice Australia is the national centre of excellence in health justice partnership. Health justice partnerships are a new way of working that transform how people experiencing vulnerability get the help they need in the settings they know and trust. Traditionally, our health and human services are specialised systems that respond to problems in isolation. People, however, do not experience problems in isolation. Human lives are messy and complex, but our siloed service systems are not built to respond to the multiple and inter-related problems in people's lives. Recognising that services need to change how they help people with these problems, community legal services started moving lawyers out of their offices and into the most unlikely of places - hospitals and community health settings - to meet legal need where it was presenting.

Since Health Justice Australia was established in 2016, the health justice partnership movement has grown exponentially. While health justice partnerships are busy on the ground doing great work, there are many system barriers that limit their expansion and effectiveness. Health Justice Australia exists to understand and amplify the innovations made by individual health justice partnerships and translate the lessons into system-level solutions that respond to complexity.

About the role

We have an aspirational agenda for impact over the next 5 years and are looking to bring on some new colleagues to help make that happen. We’re looking for highly skilled people to work across three priority areas of our strategy: national HJP network convening; national HJP development and consulting; and driving systems change through policy design and advocacy informed by the practice of health justice partnership.

Because we are genuinely testing the scope and fit of these roles within our broader strategy, we’re offering:

  • 1-3 casual/part time contracts or 1 full time contract (candidates are encouraged to stipulate their preference upon submitting an EoI), across 0.4 to 1.0 full time equivalent (FTE) roles
  • 6-month contract/s with the possibility of extension
  • Depending on the skills and capabilities of those expressing interest, we estimate requiring 1-3 people to undertake activity in one or more of the below project areas.

Project 1: Conveying the national health justice partnership network
What we want to do

  • Design, coordinate and convene a program to support national networking, learning and development opportunities among health justice partnerships (HJP)
  • Build capacity of this national network across Health Justice Australia’s priority areas of knowledge, practice and systems change
  • Maintain Health Justice Australia’s national HJP database
  • Develop and refine internal processes to capture and share the lessons of HJP practice
  • Translate research and practice evidence into practical resources and tools.

Project 2: Developing and delivering products and services
What we want to do

  • Work with potential clients across the national health justice landscape to identify partnership and collaboration-based products and services that generate revenue for Health Justice Australia through meeting customer needs.
  • Design, implement and review a range of products and services to support collaborative approaches to working with complexity
  • Translate research and practice evidence into practical resources and tools.

Project 3: Driving systems change
what we want to do

  • Work across the Health Justice Australia team to draft and develop policy content informed by evidence and practice, including discussion papers, submissions and other content.
  • Convene consultative processes including roundtables and other activities to identify different and shared agendas and build momentum across a range of actors working towards systems change.
  • Develop, maintain and nurture relationships and liaise with internal and external stakeholders across a range of constituencies including communities, service providers, government agencies and others.

The mix of skills and experience we’re looking for

We’re looking for motivated, experienced people to work in 1 or more of the above project areas. If you’re a strategic thinker, doer and skilled communicator who knows what it means to partner for impact, then we want to hear from you.

Like the rest of the Health Justice Australia’s team, we’re looking for people who can work remotely. If required, we have access to meeting rooms and hot desks in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Salary range

We are genuinely interested in the field of candidates this call for expressions of interest uncovers, and are committed to testing the design of the roles around the people who can help achieve our impact. We anticipate these roles to sit between level 4 to level 6 classifications of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) 2010. Remunerated at 5% above-award rate, our starting range is between $72,952.43 – $94,737.83 (pro rata per annum) for part or full time employment, and between $46.77 – $60.73 per hour (inclusive of 25% casual loading) for casual employment, depending on skills, experience and scope of the role, plus 9.5% superannuation and generous salary packaging options.
