We’re looking for a professional Practice Lead Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Participation with relevant experience who wants to join our 2,000+ team of staff and volunteers to make a difference on a permanent full-time basis, working 38 hours per week.

THE ROLE
This position will be a subject matter expert in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultures. The role will support NDIS Services to develop and continuously improve cultural knowledge and culturally appropriate practices for LAC and ECEI staff. They will provide leadership, information and support for LAC and ECEI staff to ensure that BSL delivers a high-quality service for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples with disability and their families.
This role is required to have an understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, and their experiences of disability and will recognise and support the role of evidence in NDIS Services practice.
This position is identified for Aboriginal people and exemption is claimed under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Provide practice leadership to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people with disabilities and staff working with them
- Support and guide the development of culturally appropriate and relevant practices for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people with disabilities
- Lead the development and implementation of a cultural safety audit and action plan to identify priorities for improving cultural safety
- Contribute to the design and delivery of a staff education program to overcome barriers experienced by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities in accessing the NDIS
Salary will be in the range of $93,154.77 to $97,269.24 per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation.

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and social ways of life
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with Melbourne’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Communities
- Existing relationships with, and capacity to further develop these in BSL NDIS service areas
- Demonstrated experience relevant to the community/disability sector. Lived experience as person with disability, or a carer of person with disability will be highly regarded
